The Power of Narrative to Effect Social Change
Rockland, Maine - On Thursday July 12 at 6:30 PM, The Rockland Library presents a talk by Shenna Bellows, Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine.

Shenna Bellows, Executive Director of the ACLU of Maine, will discuss the power of individual stories to effect social change in the areas of civil rights and civil liberties.  Shenna will share stories of individuals with whom the ACLU works -- organizations, grassroots activists, and ordinary Mainers -- who have helped advance public policy in the areas of immigrants' rights, marriage equality, reproductive rights, racial profiling, and voting rights.  Despite unprecedented attacks on core civil liberties in the last decade, the opponents of civil liberties may be waning in power, as individual stories capture the hearts of American voters.

Special accommodations for persons with disabilities can be made with 48 hours notice. Please call the Library at 594-0310.

This is one in a continuing Thursday series of literary, film and cultural offerings sponsored by the Rockland Public Library & The Friends of the Rockland Public Library. Admission is free.
