Augusta, Maine - Lithgow Public Library in Augusta has announced a call for entries for a non-juried art exhibit in conjunction with A Capital Read, the library’s annual community-wide reading project.  This year’s selection is The Submission by Amy Waldman, which explores the controversy and complex emotions surrounding a memorial for the victims of 9/11.
“Recovering, Remembering and Memorializing:  Celebrating How We Honor People, Pets, Places and the Past” is open to artists of all ages, working in any medium including photography, painting, print making, sculpture, fiber arts, poetry and creative writing.  Artists may submit up to two pieces no larger than 14”x18”.  Due to space limitations, all submissions may not be displayed.  All entries received will be entered into a prize drawing.
The works will be displayed in the library’s Reading Room, the Adult Services and Youth Services departments, in the display case at Augusta’s City Center, and on view at UMA’s Gannett Building on Water Street in Augusta.
Submissions may be dropped off at Lithgow Library, 45 Winthrop Street in Augusta, beginning March 1.  No submissions will be received after March 25.  An Artist’s Release and Indemnification Agreement and entry form must be complete, signed and returned with each submission.
The exhibit will run from April 1-30.  All works must be picked up at Lithgow Library by May 10 at 5 p.m.
